For trekking shoes to serve us for a long time, it is necessary to take proper care of them. It is worth remembering that these shoes are made of various materials. Let us tell you how to take care of your shoes properly.

Trekking shoes care

Trekking shoes, just like any other shoes, need care adjusted to their material. We will tell you how to take care of them.

Remember that even the best care won’t help if your shoes are of low quality. So if you are looking for shoes, which will accompany you for many years, you should check the offer of the Polish brand https://www.nagaba.pl/.

Cleaning

Let’s start with the most important thing, i.e. shoe cleaning. Shoes of this type should be thoroughly cleaned after every expedition. Trekking shoes are usually made of nubuck and this material is not very easy to clean. So how to do it? First of all, remember to always dry-clean nubuck using a soft bristle brush and a special nubuck eraser. However, if you do not have it, a breadcrumb can be used. The soles can be easily wiped with a cloth slightly dipped in lukewarm water

When it comes to suede shoes, you should also remember about gentle cleaning. In case of this material, it is best to use special preparations, such as stain remover or renovator for suede. This type of leather does not like humidity, so it is recommended to clean it only dry or with such a preparation. You will need a soft brush that will brush away dirt and dust from the fibers of the leather and make them smooth. What about more stubborn dirt, such as mud or salt on your suede shoes? Wait until the dirt dries – then it will be easier to remove with a brush without excessive rubbing and risk of damaging the material. There are also several homemade methods for cleaning suede, such as wiping with a cloth soaked in vinegar or a mixture of milk and baking soda, and cleaning the material with a breadcrumb. Keep in mind, however, that all these methods may be slightly less effective and safe for your shoes.

On the other hand, if you own material shoes, you can successfully clean them using water. Before you start cleaning, remove the insoles and laces. First, use a soft brush to remove the biggest dirt and then rinse the upper under running water.

Drying

It is also very important to dry your shoes properly – leather should dry slowly, so dry your shoes in a shady, well-ventilated place. You can also use tissue paper or newspapers for drying. Remember to never dry your trekking boots in direct sunlight, over a campfire or on a radiator

Storage and waterproofing

After some time, in addition to thorough cleaning, trekking shoes will also need impregnation. This is done in order to restore their water repellency. Remember, however, to choose an impregnating agent depending on the material the boots are made of – a different agent will be suitable for nubuck or velour boots and another for models made of leather or fabric. Proper storage of shoes is also important. So remember to store your footwear in a ventilated and dry place, with the tongues wide apart.
